I am a trained and experienced EMDR therapist and use it extensively in my therapy. EMDR can help many clients to quickly and often dramatically relieve symptoms of psychological trauma. It can help you to achieve lasting relief from distressing memories and symptoms.
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based psychotherapy method designed to help individuals overcome trauma and emotional distress. EMDR is a very well-evidenced, highly effective treatment recommended by the NHS and World Health Organisation for a variety of psychological issues.
Who Can Benefit from EMDR?
EMDR therapy is beneficial for almost everyone I work with, and can be especially effective for individuals dealing with:
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)
- Anxiety and Panic Disorders
- Phobias
- Grief and Loss
- Social anxiety
- Depression
- Dissociative disorders
How long does EMDR therapy take?
While EMDR usually works far more quickly than other therapies, the length of time it takes depends on the trauma you have experienced, what your therapy goals are and how you respond to EMDR therapy. As a very rough guide, for one issue, or cluster of symptoms, improvement can be seen usually in 8 sessions, though often symptoms reduce much sooner.
While I usually work with people once a week, I do also offer EMDR intensive therapy for clients who wish to have a focussed, intensive course of treatment using EMDR.
The video below explains more about EMDR and you can read more about EMDR on the EMDR UK website.
